David Week 1: Artistic Inspiration
August 30, 2022
I love drawing. My entire life I have been doing art (especially drawing) in one way or another, and I’ve learned and grown as an artist since I started. I’ve always enjoyed doing art, but I drifted away from it for a while. Starting on the Israel trip, I got back into drawing in my sketchbook and it has been very pleasant and gratifying. I have watched myself become a better artist, and have seen improvements in my art and the different types of drawing I have been making.
Looking at my sketchbook, you can really tell the different phases I was going through while drawing. Some sketches would be of items around me at the time, others would be horrifically deformed monstrosities. The majority of pieces in my sketchbook are (surprise, surprise) superheroes. They aren’t normal heroes and vary from being able to open any door with their chin to having non-retractable swords coming from their shoulders. I haven’t really been making many new original characters recently, purely because I’ve decided to start working harder at practicing and making my art look even better than it does.
In the past few months, I have surprisingly picked up a lot of new information and tactics to make my drawings better. Whether they’re sketching tips or just better tactics as to getting proportions right, every bit of information counts. Something I decided to do to increase my knowledge of drawing was take the Digital Art and Media class, and so far it is pretty fun. In the class, we will be learning how to draw on and use photoshop and learn new drawing tips along the way. We have yet to receive our iPads yet, but we have been learning anyway via traditional paper.
I’m so glad I was able to rekindle my love for drawing. Do you have a hobby that you think is worth trying out again?
I really liked reading about your journey with drawing. Similarly to you, I have picked up an old skill. I played violin for many years before stopping 2 years ago, and I very recently picked it back up. It has been really fun so far and I enjoy watching myself improve.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you were able to try out your old hobby again. I liked that you wrote about rekindling your interest in art and your journey on how you became better because of it.
ReplyDeleteI loved reading this blog post. I have been friends with you for so many years, and I have seen you draw so many times. It was really interesting reading about you trying to improve at art and try to expand on your abilities. As I'm someone who isn't very talented at drawing, it is always fascinating to see how other people feel about it.
ReplyDeleteThis blog post resonated with me because I have also tried to pick up old skills. Over COVID I stopped playing cards with my friends, and I've felt much happier ever since I started playing again.
