Jayda Week 4: The Importance of Music to Me

Throughout my life, I have never been able to maintain an interest in something for more than a short period of time. I would always become fixated on something, then that thing would lose significance to me. For as long as I can remember, the only thing that I have been able to stay interested in is music.

My first memory of ever being obsessed with a song was probably when I was around 3-4 years old. I would beg my mom to put on the song “Enter Sandman” by Metallica every time we were in the car. I probably knew all of the words to that song by the time I was 5-6. Since around that time, I have always had a passion for the musical arts. I was raised surrounded by music, and now it has become one of the largest parts of my life.

Over the years, I have been able to gain an even deeper connection to music. I started to realize that it was not just sounds, but a way for emotions to be expressed in the most divine form. It is able to divide people and bring them together. There are no limits in anything with regard to music. It can be as bizarre or emotional as the producer wants, or it can have no words at all. Each composition of sound is unique in its own way and should be recognized as art.

Even now, while writing this post, I am listening to music. It has never failed to bring me a sense of comfort or consistency when I felt I needed it most. Music has become a major part of my life and has had an important role in forming my character.

What has helped form you as a person?
