Jolie Week 2: Why Captain America: Civil War is the Best Marvel Movie
Why Captain America: Civil War is the Best Marvel Movie
When it comes to Marvel movies, they tend to have the same format. Most have a hero and a villain. Captain America: Civil War takes the core elements of a classic Marvel movie and elevates it. Instead of having a clear hero and villain, Civil War shows two sides where neither is right nor wrong. It shows the true complexity of conflicts, most conflicts do not have a clear line between right and wrong. There is a level of nuance in Civil War that reflects real-life conflicts and is the reason there are continuous debates surrounding the movie. There is something to be said for a piece of media that has the ability to make you deeply feel multiple contradicting emotions at the same time. Civil War evokes feelings of joy, frustration, loyalty, and betrayal all within a single scene. You will find yourself rooting for the victory and downfall of both sides. So much of this movie is centered around family whether that be biological or found loved ones. Going back to the discussion of right verse wrong and even a harder reality to accept is that our internal moral compass can be ignored when it comes to family. Something that feels obviously wrong when a stranger does it might not seem as black and white when it is your brother. On top of all the complex emotions and real-life truths that this movie speaks to, at the end of the day it is simply a fun and enjoyable film. It is important when dealing with complexities to not lose the entertainment aspect of the medium. Civil War will cause you to get into hour-long debates with your friends, tell your family how much you love and appreciate them, and make you want to restart as soon as the last end credit scene plays. Now you tell me, are you team Cap or team Iron Man?

ReplyDeleteAs someone who is not an avid Marvel movie watcher, hearing your perspective is extremely interesting. It seems as though it has a thicker plot than most Marvel movies and sounds like something I might be interested in watching. I also agree that lines tend to be blurred when it comes to family, and I think this is important for others to see brought to life.

ReplyDeleteI loved reading this blogpost. I do enjoy watching MCU movies, however reading about them is also fun. Hearing other people's opinions on them can really help can a wider appreciation of movies, and not just stick to what you like. Although this is one of my favorite movies in the franchise, the way you explained why this movie is very easy to understand. I would've been convinced to like this movie even if I'd never seen it before.
