Nicole Week 4: Deviled Eggs
I was sitting in Lang class on an average Monday morning, contemplating what I should write my blog post about. The more topics I considered, the faster my options depleted, finding myself stuck in a dreaded stage for any writer: writer's block. I listened to the exclaimed ideas of my peers, hoping it would conjure up some inspiration for myself. One of my classmates reminded us that our post does not have to necessarily be a narrative of philosophical deductions or answers to the world’s most pondered questions, but rather something simple and, well, unimportant. A quality blog post is not about the topic itself, but what you can make of the topic. This is why I have decided to blog about my experience making and trying deviled eggs for the first time.
I first began by hard boiling the eggs and then cutting the cooked eggs in half and removing the yolk. Next, it was time to assemble the filling. If you were like me about five minutes ago and do not know what deviled eggs are, the filling is essentially a mixture of mashed yolk, mustard, mayo, and a variety of seasonings. You then mix those ingredients until you have reached the desired consistency. Following, I simply piped the mixture into the egg white halves and topped it with a pinch of paprika. Now was the moment of truth: my first time trying my own creation of deviled eggs. I have to admit, I was a bit unsettled with the texture combinations within this concoction, but I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Not only were they aesthetically pleasing, but achieved satisfaction in the taste department. A slightly sweet taste with a tang of spiciness, a type of egg I will certainly be making again and highly recommend. This week’s blog has successfully expanded my food palette, commencing a newfound interest in trying more new recipes. So, despite the topic of this blog being completely arbitrary and trivial, I nonetheless very much enjoyed having an excuse to try new things I would have never done before. What is something you want to try in the future but never got around to doing it?
Deviled eggs are in fact quite scrumptious, and I'm glad you had the opportunity to try such a yummy snack!
ReplyDeleteThis blog post was particularly fun to read. Some of my favorite pieces of writing are about things that are considered "trivial." Although this blog post wasn't about the political and economic state of the Middle East, it was still a thoroughly enjoying piece that kept my attention throughout. Reading this made me want to try deviled eggs, and I will let you know if I do.
ReplyDeleteI really admire that you were able to try something new. I also loved your description of the process you went through to be able to achieve the tasty new food!
