Michael Galler Week 5: Wrong Opinions
As members of the United States of America, we have the right to freedom of speech thanks to the first amendment. For the most part, the first amendment is a glorious amendment. We are allowed to say (almost) anything we want without getting arrested. However, there are problems with the first amendment. Thanks to that amendment, we all get to hear many wrong opinions from people. Some people may say that opinions are subjective, and therefore, they cannot be wrong. I disagree with this because some people say the most outlandish things that make zero sense. I was at a sports game recently and heard someone casually say in conversation that white chocolate is better than milk chocolate. I’m sorry, but that is incorrect. It isn’t even really chocolate; it is mostly cocoa butter and sugar, that’s it. Milk chocolate tastes way better than white chocolate, and it doesn’t even compare. I began to think of wrong opinions that I have heard before, and a lot of them were spoken by my younger brother. I treasure my brother, but he has plenty of wrong opinions. For example, he thinks pasta tastes bad. What normal human thinks that every single pasta (Except ravioli, he likes ravioli. I don’t understand it either.) should never be eaten? Pasta is a wonderful creation that everyone should enjoy, but my brother doesn’t like it. As a person who enjoys hearing the most ridiculous opinions, I wanted to ask you what is the most wrong opinion you have ever heard. I don’t know if there is a more wrong opinion than “pasta is bad”, but I’d love to hear what absurd statements have come out of humans' mouths.
First of all, white chocolate over milk and dark? I almost fainted reading that. And pasta? I cannot believe this. I don't think opinions can be wrong, but sometimes I will argue over something without the intent to agree with the other person, I guess. For instance, because you brought chocolate up, dark is by far the best. It is so rich and delicious that others just cannot compare. I will understand if someone chooses the basic choice of milk chocolate, but I will not even try to understand someone's argument on why white chocolate is the best. An opinion of mine that you might disagree with is that I think all water tastes the same. If you gave me unlabeled cups of Dasani, Zephyrhills, Smart Water, Poland Spring, tap water, or any other type of water, there is no way I would be able to tell the difference, and I think people just say there's a difference because they want to.
ReplyDeleteI feel personally attacked reading this, sometimes white chocolate IS better than milk chocolate. Honestly, it depends on my mood. So this comment does not seem so absurd to me. However, I am speechless by the pasta opinion. Seriously? Pasta is one of the most versatile foods and I have never met anyone who does not like such a delicious dish doubled as the best comfort food out there.
ReplyDeleteI think that opinions are opinions for a reason. They are simply the thoughts of other people on specific topics. Personally, I really do not see how someone could thing that pasta is disgusting, but I respect that opinion. As for the chocolate, all chocolate has its time and place, and it really depends on what it is being used for or paired with. However, there are some things that people claim to be opinions, but have been proved wrong. This includes things such as claims saying that the earth is flat and that the moon landing was staged. As for any other thing, such as choice of chocolate, I couldn't care less about what someone thinks.
ReplyDeleteI believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion since, technically, there is no wrong opinion. With that being said I definitely agree that there are universally expected opinions that are better than others. Believing that white chocolate is the best chocolate is just concerning. But, you can't really say that their opinion is wrong. I respect everyones opinions but that doesn't mean I have to agree with them.
