Amelia Week 10: Princess Diana… A Murder Story
The Prince and Princess of Wales are visiting Boston this week, making it the first time they are in the U.S. in eight years. This reminded me of Princess Diana, who became the princess in 1981 and left an influential legacy. Princess Diana of Wales died on August 31, 1997, as a result of a car “accident”. To understand why conspiracy theorists, to this day, might think this was not an accident, we have to rewind to her initial emergence in the Royal family.
Diana met Charles when she was just 16. He was 29. They got engaged when she was 19. Married at 20. I think the almost 13-year age gap is the first factor to consider about this relationship. Princess Diana suffered from post-partum depression, suicidal thoughts, and an eating disorder. Prince Charles thought she was faking her problems. He also commented on her weight which just reinforced her already horrific eating disorder that had to be kept a secret from the public world. They were unhappy and seemed lifeless in pictures together. 1986 was the start of Prince Charles’s affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. Diana and Charles started living in separate places after this, behind closed doors, of course. Their divorce was finalized in 1996. Throughout this, the royal family had a lot of tension with Diana and she wasn’t treated fairly.
When Diana died in the car accident with Dodi Fayed and driver Henri Paul after it crashed into a pillar in a tunnel, there were factors that just don’t add up which cause people to think the British government may have caused this.
Some theories and facts about this accident:
- People think that bright light in the tunnel was purposefully used to blind the driver
- The cameras in the tunnel were not working
- Diana herself had concerns about getting killed in a fake accident after her bodyguard got killed in a similar way (the bodyguard was also her lover)
- Diana being dead would allow Charles to marry Camilla easily
- People think the car could have been tampered with
- People believe that responders should have taken her to the nearest hospital right away instead of treating her on the scene
Although the evidence may not be all concrete, it indefinitely points to the death of Princess Diana as being a murder. Nobody knows exactly what caused the crash, but Prince Charles and the royal family definitely had to motive to do it.
As someone who enjoys reading and learning about questionable cases like this and is recently curious about Princess Diana, this one has me thinking about it a lot. What do you think happened in this case?

I absolutely loved reading this! Some of my favorite things to talk about are murder mysteries and the royal family, solely because they both have so many secrets to uncover. I've heard so many theories over the years about what happened to Princess Diana, including the ones you've mentioned, and while I think it's entirely possible that she could have been executed by the British government/royal family, there's always something else that makes me question that. Could they all be so heartless as to leave William and Harry without their mother just so Charles could marry someone else with less complications?
ReplyDeleteI find the whole Princess Diana controversy interesting. I, too, am very skeptical about her death. It is crazy to think about the fact that she would be queen right now if she did not get into that accident.
ReplyDeleteI personally really enjoyed reading this blog post. The death of princess Diana doesn't resonate well with me. I completely believe that it was planned and there are many pieces of evidence that prove it.
