Aryn Week 9: Team Blair or Team Serena?
The hit American Teen Drama show 'Gossip Girl' was released on September 19, 2007, and ever since, it has been a fundamental part of almost every teenage girl's life. The measly 3.5 million viewers on the airing of its first episode have been rapidly growing since 2007. Since the pilot episode was launched, there has always been conversation about what team you are on. Are you team Blair or team Serena?
Between the six seasons, Blair Waldorf and Serena Van der Woodson overcome numerous obstacles that repeatedly put their friendship at risk. The pilot episode starts at Grand Central Station, with Serena getting off the train, showing that she is back in the City. Blair and Serena restart their friendship as Serena didn't pick up her life and go to boarding school, leaving Blair entirely in the dark. They continue to forget the recurrent issues that constantly appear in their friendship: fights, cheating, lying, and persistent sabotage. Despite those issues, Serena and Blair were incredibly loyal to each other and their other friends simultaneously.
Back to the question: Team Serena or Team Blair?
Personally, I can not pick between the two. On the one hand, Serena is outgoing, enjoyable, and forgiving but constantly gets into trouble, complicated, and irresponsible. But Blair; Blair is responsible, always on top of things, and still knows how to have fun concurrently.
However, Blair can also be hard to work with and relentless. Between Serena and Blair, their boyfriends, Chuck Bass and Nate Archibald, and Gossip Girl himself, Dan Humphrey, they get into so much drama, conflict, and affairs all in four years of high school that it makes it so hard to pick a favorite.
I found this blogpost very fun to read. I have also watched TV shows where the viewer is forced to "pick a side," and sometimes it can be very hard to choose. Although I've never watched Gossip Girl, you did a great job explaining it, and I feel like I understand it as if I've watched it.
ReplyDeleteI love this show. It's one of my all time favorites. I completely agree that it's impossible to pick a side. Blair and Serena both have their imperfections and have done wrong things, however at heart are good people. The show has many ups and downs and I think you definitely explained the difficulty of picking a side well.
