Jolie Week 6: Happy Halloween

For as long as I can remember, I have hated Halloween. Halloween has always been my most dreaded holiday. Many often wonder why I dislike this holiday as much as I do. The short answer is that it has never been a fun night for me.

Growing up, every year I would go to my friend's house and we would go trick-or-treating together. To most, this would seem fun but not for little Jolie. I would never want to go trick or treating since I simply didn't understand the point of it. To this day I still do not completely understand the purpose of knocking on random people's doors and asking for candy. This concept always left me confused since we are constantly told to not talk to strangers (let alone ask for candy) but as soon as it is an excepted holiday it is fine. I understand how other people may enjoy the holiday since many believe this is a fun and exciting activity. Besides going trick or treating, I never liked getting dressed up. Dressing up in a costume made me uncomfortable. I would never fully like my costume since there was always an absurd amount of pressure put on finding the “perfect” costume. Finding a costume is so stressful but if you don’t get the best costume or have the best idea for one you will be judged. If I am being honest my ideal Halloween is to sit on the couch with my family, watch scary movies and eat candy. This might not be how everyone else decides to spend their Halloween but it is the way I would like to spend mine.

What is your least favorite holiday?
