Jolie Week 7: My lifelong best friends

I have been going to camp since the age of six, little did I know I would be meeting some of my closest friends to this day. I went to camp two years early but I was still able to meet an incredible amount of people that I am still able to go to for anything. But, the group of girls that I have been with every summer started in 2015. Sometimes I forget that I have grown up with these girls since I only see them for two months out of the year. I am able to be the most authentic version of myself when I am around my camp friends. My all-time favorite memories with them are when we just sit in our bunk and talk for hours about whatever comes to mind. The relationship I have with my summer sisters is incomparable to any other friendship I have ever had. When people ask me why it's incomparable, nothing comes to mind. The bonds I have formed with these girls are indescribable, they have seen me at my highest and lowest points as well as all the embarrassing stages in between. Despite the ten months, due to the large distance between each and every one of us, every summer when we return we are able to pick up right where we left off without any awkwardness, discomfort, or judgment. Even though summer 2022 was my last, that does not mean my friendships with these girls will be forgotten. Camp was just the place where I met and got the opportunity to grow my relationships with my friends, I now have a lifetime to continue the bonds that will hopefully be passed down to future generations to come.

Do you have any friendships that are this important to you?

  1. I completely agree. Although I had only attended my camp for one year, the friendships I've made and bonds I formed will never be forgotten. I feel as though camp friendships differ greatly from normal, everyday friends, as the memories I made with them always stay with me even months after departing camp.

  2. This is so relatable. My camp friends mean so much to me, and summer 2022 was also my last year. It was really sad knowing there won't be a gathering place for us to meet up every summer, but I realized that what made camp so special was the people and that we could really gather anywhere and it would still be just as fun. I love talking to my camp friends in the bunk too, to the point where I would end up knowledgeable in what goes on their school and social life even though I live so far. I can't wait to reunite with them again, hopefully soon.

  3. I think camp friends are a very special thing. I have known my camp friends since 2015 as well, some people in our age division came and go from camp, but the ones that have stuck till now are some of my best friends. Even though I live far away, that doesn't limit me from visiting them, or them coming here on winter break.
