Leora Tripp Week 10: A tragedy close to home
As many of you may know, two days ago, two young boys in our community were critically injured in a horrible car accident involving a collision with trees on Montoya Circle. This accident has left our community in shambles as the boys begin their slow recovery process. As Jewish communities in Boca Raton grieve over this accident, we are reminded of the importance of driver safety. The accident, occurring just a couple days after thanksgiving, has reminded me of the things I should be grateful for and the unpredictability of life.
I happened to know both of the boys injured in the accident personally and attended school with them from first grade until eighth grade. Many of my friends still attend school with them, and I can’t begin to imagine what it must feel like to lose the presence of someone they are used to being with every day. Currently, both boys are hospitalized and one is in the intensive care unit, suffering penetrating injuries, lacerations, and significant facial trauma. Since the accident, speedometers have been implemented in the area of the accident and emails have been sent out to the BRS community addressing new rules surrounding road safety in Montoya circle and my neighborhood.
The accident, a result of reckless driving, has served as a reminder to our community, opening our eyes to the high potential of death or serious injury on the road. The crash hits close to home for many, putting road safety into perspective as we sometimes lose sight of its importance in our lives. It is unfortunate that it takes a horrible accident of this nature to cause myself and many others to rethink our safety when riding with friends. We should not wait until something of this sort happens to prioritize our safety on the road. Life is unpredictable; within a couple of seconds, our lives can be changed forever, and we must keep this in mind when making unsafe choices on the road.
What were your thoughts on the recent car accident?
