Sophia Week 10: Can I Ask You a Question?
It really just hit me, like a ball to the face, that my 10th blog post was going to mark the end of our first semester of blog posts, and additionally, all of our blog posts for 2022. Therefore, I decided it was very important I go out with a bang, so to speak. I began to sit there and brainstorm ideas, whether or not I should write a typical review/informational blog post or the ones I usually do when I go on emotional rants. Eventually, I came up with the idea that I should write almost like a recollection of all my blog posts for the year, providing me with an opportunity to reflect on how I felt about the topics I’ve written on, how I think my writing has improved, did my emotional state at the time affect my blog posts, and so on. I came to figure, though, that maybe this idea should be my final blog post for Sophomore year in general so stay tuned. I went on to call a friend to help me come up with blog post ideas when the perfect topic finally came to me: instead of asking myself how I’ve felt about blog posts, why don’t I ask my fellow classmates? I decided to interview 2 of my peers in order to see whether some people had different opinions on writing blog posts or if there was a more general consensus amongst the class, and here are the results:
1. What was your favorite type of blog post to write?
Classmate 1:
- likes to write about opinions
- also prefers to talk about personal experiences
Classmate 2:
- likes to write about things they feel passionate about
- enjoys sharing stories
2. What were your favorite types of blog posts to read?
Classmate 1:
- appreciated blog posts that were relatable, such as the ones about how draining school is (sound familiar)
- also enjoyed reading about blog posts discussing other’s opinions because they like to share their feelings as well
Classmate 2:
- likes to read blog posts about others’ stories that help them learn more about the person producing them
- additionally takes to blog posts that can help them understand different topics and world issues
3. How do you feel about writing comments?
Classmate 1:
- they like sharing their opinion but would prefer to share their opinion in person instead of on Blogger because it seems less meaningful
- also feels that requiring us to make comments on different people’s blogs sucks out the enjoyment
Classmate 2:
- they think it was hard to figure out what to comment on later blog posts since there were only certain peoples' posts they could comment on
- nonetheless, enjoyed writing comments and put a lot of effort into each one
4. Do you think the ability to write about politics next semester will cause any drastic changes?
Classmate 1:
- thinks more debates will arise out of this new development
- feels that these debates will be positive, though, since we are all mature enough to respect each others’ opinions
Classmate 2:
- doesn’t think the changes will be significant because most people will resort to what we wrote this semester (reviews/opinions)
- they personally are not that involved in politics and don’t think that they will enjoy reading political ones
PAUSE
I roped in a 3rd classmate to share their opinion because classmate 1 had to go …
Classmate 3:
- a hundred percent
- they feel that people are already apprehensive about disagreeing with someone’s opinion and that they will be even more so to comment on someone’s political views
5. Has having to write blog posts for school changed your opinion about them in general?
Classmate 2:
- they don’t think it has because they were excited to write daily blog posts and share stories/opinions from the beginning
- they still look forward to writing blog posts each week
Classmate 3:
- originally felt the idea of having to write blog posts every week sounded strange
- has come to look forward to the challenge it imposes
As this wraps up my interview, I have one final question to leave you guys with: How have you felt about writing blog posts this semester?
I have to say, I did enjoy writing the blog posts and learning more about my writing voice. Would I have done the blog posts on my own accord? Probably not. I would have preferred to have more free time, but at least I learned more about my piers as well!
ReplyDeleteI found it very impressive that you were able to write such a compelling blogpost while keeping the respondents of your questions anonymous. Even if I wasn't in this class, I would still feel like I wrote a blog each week due to the amount of detail you put in. I'm very impressed.
